Global bee extinction accelerates as UN warns of 'alarming' decline across continents

In the Mexican state of Campeche, the situation is equally dire. The Calakmul region, a vast swath of tropical forest, relies heavily on apiculture for both income and ecosystem health. But climate change, deforestation, and biodiversity loss have slashed honey production by more than 60 percent in some areas, according to local producers. The degradation of feeding grounds and water scarcity, exacerbated by rising temperatures and erratic rainfall, are forcing beekeepers to adapt rapidly to preserve their way of life and the forest itself.

The consequences of a world without bees extend far beyond honey shortages. As specialists have long warned, the extinction of these pollinators would trigger a cascade of failures across agriculture and natural ecosystems.
