Former Israeli Soldier Indicted on Charges of Spying for Iran
Israeli authorities say a former soldier who served in a classified unit was indicted on July 16 for contact with an Iranian agent and attempted information transfer.

At one stage, the suspect was asked to help recruit another military serviceman to communicate with that agent.
Authorities have not disclosed the type of information the suspect allegedly passed to the Iranian contact, the date of his arrest, or the name of the unit in which he served, citing the classified nature of its activities. The case comes amid what Israeli security officials describe as a broader pattern. According to the Times of Israel, dozens of Israelis—including several active-duty soldiers and reservists—have been charged with spying for Iran over the past two years. Israeli authorities say that in many of those cases, Iranian operatives recruited Israelis through social media, particularly Telegram.
Separately, Israeli Channel 12 reported that security agencies have circulated assessments to senior officials—including several ministers—warning that Iran has increased efforts to target prominent Israeli figures, both current and former. The assessments claim that these efforts aim for strategic and psychological gains. According to the report, the Shin Bet has consequently raised the level of protective measures for a number of senior officials.
The indictment and the reported increase in Iranian targeting operations are viewed by Israeli security sources as part of an ongoing covert confrontation between the two countries. No date has been announced for the suspect’s next court appearance, and further details about the case remain under a gag order or have been withheld by the authorities.
