The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the timeline for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana and Odisha, while publishing draft electoral rolls in Haryana and Andhra Pradesh, according to official statements issued in late July and early August 2026.

In Telangana, the ECI revised the SIR schedule, pushing the date for house-to-house enumeration visits by Booth Level Officers to August 10, 2026. The draft electoral roll will now be published on August 17, 2026, and the final roll on October 19, 2026, with October 1, 2026, as the qualifying date, according to a notification by ECI Secretary Pawan Diwan. The revision followed a request from Telangana's Chief Electoral Officer for additional time. The ECI had previously extended the enumeration deadline from July 24 to August 3, and later to August 10. In Odisha, the deadline for filing claims and objections was extended from August 4 to August 19, also after a request from the state's Chief Electoral Officer, the ECI stated. The final publication of electoral rolls for Odisha is scheduled for September 21, 2026.

Draft electoral rolls were published on July 31 in Haryana for all 90 Assembly constituencies, and in Andhra Pradesh after completion of the enumeration phase. In Haryana, over 20,000 Booth Level Officers distributed enumeration forms to more than 2.06 crore electors, with 1.72 crore forms submitted as of July 24. During the exercise, 24.13 lakh electors were found permanently shifted or absent, 7.66 lakh were identified as deceased, and 2.04 lakh were found enrolled at multiple locations, an official statement said. In Andhra Pradesh, enumeration forms were submitted by 3.71 crore electors, or 89.22 per cent of the state's total electors, with 15.22 lakh identified as deceased and 22.30 lakh categorised as permanently shifted or absent. The ECI said names of electors enrolled at multiple places will be retained only at one location.

The SIR process is being carried out across 16 states in its third phase. The first phase was conducted in Bihar in 2025, and the second phase in 12 states and Union Territories in late 2025 and early 2026. The Supreme Court in May 2026 upheld the legality of the revision, but clarified that the exercise does not authorise the Election Commission to decide on citizenship. The ECI has reiterated its commitment to a transparent and inclusive process, stating that no deletion from rolls will occur without notice, inquiry, and a speaking order. The claims and objections period for Haryana runs from July 31 to August 30, with final rolls due on October 3. In Telangana, claims and objections can be filed from August 17 to September 16, and will be heard until October 15 before the final publication on October 19.
