Lebanese state media reported that a drone strike killed one person in a cemetery in Maarakah, while warplanes carried out three raids on Deir al-Zahrani overnight. Artillery targeted Srifa, Kharbet Salm, and the heights of Ali al-Taher near Nabatieh, where helicopter gunships also struck and ground forces attempted to advance around the village of Arnoun. Witnesses described the demolition of civilian homes and official buildings in Bint Jbeil at dawn, alongside heavy bombardments in the western Bekaa. The Israeli military said it had intercepted a suspicious aerial object crossing from Lebanon into Israeli airspace, underscoring the cycle of alleged provocations and reprisals.

Viewed from Washington, the renewed violence complicates an already delicate diplomatic landscape. An Israeli newspaper, Yedioth Ahronoth, reported on Saturday that intelligence assessments suggest any future agreement between the United States and Iran will likely include a ceasefire in Lebanon. This intertwining of tracks reflects the broader view that the Lebanon conflict cannot be extricated from the nuclear standoff with Tehran. Iran International separately noted that Iran has stepped up the protection of its enriched uranium stockpile by destroying tunnels and mining entrances, a move analysts in London say could make any verification or transfer provisions in a nuclear deal far more difficult and time-consuming.

The ceasefire, originally slated for extension, now hangs by a thread. Israeli officials portray the evacuation orders as a necessary response to Hezbollah’s failure to abide by the terms, while Lebanese authorities denounce the strikes as continued aggression. The geographic spread of the warnings—sweeping from the Nabatieh governorate toward the Jezzine district and the western Beqaa valley—suggests preparations for a wider military footprint.
