Jordan intercepts four Iranian missiles and four drones, no casualties reported
Jordanian air defences intercepted four of six Iranian missiles and later shot down four drones on Wednesday, with no injuries or damage.
Jordan’s armed forces said on Wednesday that its air defence systems had intercepted four of six missiles launched from Iranian territory, while the remaining two fell in remote uninhabited areas. In a later statement, the military added that Royal Air Force aircraft had also shot down four Iranian drones that entered Jordanian airspace the same morning. Both operations, according to the military, caused no casualties or material damage.
A military source quoted by the Jordan News Agency said the missiles were engaged immediately upon entering Jordanian airspace. The Royal Engineering Corps moved to the impact sites of the two fallen missiles and to debris from the interceptions to secure the areas, the source added. The armed forces said they would continue to respond to any aerial threat against the kingdom in accordance with established rules of engagement.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has in recent days claimed it targeted the “Shahid Muwaffaq al-Salti Air Base” in Azraq and the “Prince Hassan Air Base” in Safawi, about 140 kilometres north-east of Amman, according to the Jordanian military. The United States military announced on Saturday that two of its soldiers were killed and another was missing as a result of Iranian strikes on Jordan on Friday. Jordan’s foreign ministry summoned the Iranian chargé d’affaires on Sunday to protest what it called “continued Iranian aggressions”.
Jordan has faced a near-daily tempo of ballistic missile and drone attacks from Iran in recent days, the military said. The kingdom has previously intercepted dozens of Iranian projectiles. In April 2024, Jordanian fighters, together with US and British forces, intercepted more than 80 Iranian drones during a large-scale Iranian attack on Israel. In October 2024, debris from Iranian missiles fired at Israel fell on Jordanian territory, lightly injuring three people. Iran has periodically struck other regional states where US military bases are located, including the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, according to the Russian state news agency Kommersant.

Iran’s missile and drone attacks against Jordan are reckless and threaten regional stability. Jordan’s military acted decisively to protect its sovereignty and the safety of its people. The international community must condemn Iran’s aggression and support Jordan’s right to self-defense.
The US escalation against Iran continues, with Jordan being dragged into the conflict as a proxy. Iran’s actions are a legitimate response to US threats and Israeli provocations. The interception by Jordan is unfortunate but predictable given the regional tensions fueled by Washington.
The Jordanian interception of Iranian missiles is another episode in the US-led campaign against Iran. Russia calls for restraint and de-escalation from all sides. The underlying cause is Washington’s refusal to engage in meaningful diplomacy.
