Vini Jr.’s Chin Harmonisation Draws Medical Warnings and Viral Scrutiny
The Brazilian forward’s newly defined jawline, the result of a cosmetic procedure performed under strict privacy in Goiânia, has prompted dermatologists to caution against excessive interventions and fuelled online debate about changing appearances.
The Brazilian footballer Vinícius Júnior appeared at a public event in Goiânia on 20 July with a visibly more pronounced chin and jawline, the outcome of a facial harmonisation procedure carried out days earlier. The treatment, performed by dermatologist Alessandro Alarcão, focused on projecting and defining the chin, and was conducted under exceptional privacy measures: the clinic closed to the public for the day and staff followed a strict protocol to prevent leaks, according to Brazilian media reports. The player’s girlfriend, influencer Virginia Fonseca, accompanied him and underwent a separate radiofrequency-based facial treatment known as XERF during the same period.
Medical specialists interviewed by CNN Brasil stressed that such procedures, while minimally invasive, are not without risk. Dermatologist Samara Kouzak warned that the pursuit of a more chiselled look, often driven by celebrity and social-media influence, can lead patients to request treatments without clinical indication. She noted that the volume of product injected directly correlates with the likelihood of complications, which range from haematomas and oedema to vascular occlusion and, in rare cases, tissue necrosis or vision loss. Separate medical guidelines cited by the same outlet list clear contraindications, including pregnancy, breastfeeding, active skin infections, autoimmune diseases, and known allergies to hyaluronic acid. Athletes are advised to pause intense physical activity for 24 to 48 hours after the procedure.
The change in Vini Jr.’s appearance quickly went viral, with social-media users juxtaposing before-and-after images of both the player and Fonseca, who has herself undergone multiple aesthetic interventions over the years. A video posted in February by visagist Igor Albuquerque, in which he analysed the footballer’s facial proportions and suggested a beard and a more projected chin could improve balance, resurfaced and was widely shared. Albuquerque had used AI-generated simulations and stressed that any real-life proposal must respect the individual’s bone structure and identity. Online commentary ranged from praise to lament, with some users expressing concern that the player had erased distinctive family traits.
The episode coincides with the couple’s public reconciliation. After a break-up in May, Vini Jr. and Fonseca rekindled their relationship during the World Cup, exchanging affectionate social-media interactions and gifts, and have since been photographed together at a gym inauguration in Goiânia and a festa junina in Rio de Janeiro. The convergence of a high-profile cosmetic procedure and a rekindled romance has placed the pair at the centre of a broader conversation in Brazil about aesthetic pressure, medical responsibility, and the influence of digital culture on personal identity.

Vinícius Junior's procedure is framed as a routine medical step, emphasizing its effectiveness and the player's return to the field. Risks are mentioned but downplayed, and a neutral tone with slight optimism prevails.
In South Asian media, the story is framed with concern: hormonal harmonization of a young athlete raises ethical and health doubts. Quoted doctors warn of dangers, and the tone is critical towards medicalization of sport.
