New email claims to hold video of Nancy Guthrie with her abductor

An anonymous correspondent has told US media they possess a phone containing footage of the missing 84-year-old and her alleged kidnapper, demanding Bitcoin for access.

A person claiming direct knowledge of the abduction of Nancy Guthrie has sent a new electronic communication to a US entertainment news website, asserting they have hidden a mobile telephone containing a short video of the 84-year-old with the “main guy” on what was probably her last day alive. The message, received by TMZ and forwarded to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, also purports to hold photographs of two involved individuals, along with names, addresses and ages.

TMZ reported that it verified the email originated from the same source as earlier ransom demands, citing a previously undisclosed Bitcoin address and a consistent alias. The sender is now asking for one Bitcoin — worth approximately $60,000 at the time — in exchange for the device’s password, and mocked a recent FBI suggestion that the author might be a woman, while denying responsibility for a separate false tip about a burial site in Mexico.

Nancy Guthrie, the mother of NBC “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie, disappeared from her Tucson, Arizona home on 1 February. Police found blood near the entrance and have treated the case as a kidnapping. In the months since, the family has received a series of communications that investigators consider potentially authentic: a first note demanded millions in cryptocurrency for her safe return, and a second, confirmed by CNN, stated she had died shortly after the abduction and that her death was not intentional. Savannah Guthrie, speaking on air, described her family’s “agony” and pleaded for anyone with information to come forward.

Authorities have not publicly confirmed the legitimacy of any of the messages, and sources close to the investigation remain divided, according to Fox News. Some investigators believe all the ransom demands are fraudulent, while others are cautious given that Guthrie’s whereabouts remain unknown. A combined reward of more than $1.2 million is being offered for information that cracks the case, and the FBI continues to examine the latest email.
