Tesla Starts Cybercab Production in a High-Stakes Wager on the Robotaxi Era

Elon Musk has declared that series production of the Cybercab, Tesla’s purpose-built robotaxi, has finally begun — and he has supplied the visual evidence to prove it. In a 38-second video posted to his social network X, a camera mounted inside a two-seat, steering‑wheel‑less vehicle captures it rolling through what is believed to be the company’s Austin, Texas, factory. A second, shorter clip shows a column of the fully autonomous electric cars moving in convoy.

The announcement, made on Friday, fulfils Musk’s earlier pledge to launch initial production in the second quarter of 2026, ahead of the original “before 2027” timeline outlined at the model’s unveiling in October 2024.
