President Donald Trump on Saturday posted an artificial-intelligence-generated image on his Truth Social platform bearing the phrase “Trump 2028 – Make America Great Again”, a direct reference to the next presidential election. The post, which showed him before a smiling crowd, contained no written comment but renewed attention on his repeated suggestions that he might seek a third term, a step explicitly barred by the 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution.
Trump has flirted with the idea for months. In October of last year he told journalists he would “love to do it”, and at a White House correspondents’ dinner last week he wore a cap with the same “Trump 2028” slogan, joking that “the third time will be even better. I’m just kidding.” At the same dinner, according to a report, he also quipped about running for a fourth term, a reference to his unsubstantiated claim that the 2020 election was fraudulent.
