The West acknowledges China's lead but warns that protectionism will only accelerate the decline of domestic automakers.
By presenting China's success as inevitable and US tariffs as counterproductive, this angle positions itself as a neutral observer that sees the bigger picture, thereby undermining the rationale for trade barriers.
The bloc omits the positive reception of Chinese EVs in Global South markets and the historical context of Western industrial policies that enabled China's growth.
BYD's export success is presented as a milestone that redefines the global auto landscape, positioning Chinese manufacturers as leaders.
By highlighting record export numbers and the percentage of foreign sales, the narrative constructs BYD as a global champion that surpasses legacy automakers, making its rise seem natural.
The bloc leaves out the role of subsidies and state support in China's auto industry, as well as the defensive strategies of incumbents like Suzuki in Southeast Asia.
Suzuki is a local champion defending its position against an influx of new brands, without directly naming Chinese competition.
The report focuses on precise market share percentages and a defensive strategy, presenting the situation as a normal business challenge rather than a geopolitical shift.
The bloc omits the global context of BYD's export surge and the Chinese government's role in driving exports, treating the competition as purely local.
China is the aggrieved party exploited by the West; the West's current attempts to control China are a betrayal of its earlier openness.
The bloc uses a historical narrative of Western-led globalization that benefited China but is now being reversed, casting China as a rightful heir to global economic leadership.
The bloc leaves out the internal Chinese debates about overcapacity and the environmental costs of rapid industrialization, as well as the aggressive export strategies that pressure local industries abroad.
