Lebanese media report that President Joseph Aoun was also invited to Washington, and that some Lebanese businessmen sought to arrange an encounter between Aoun and Netanyahu on the margins of the funeral. According to the Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar, the businessman Antoine Sehnaoui argued that Graham had been a “friend of Lebanon” and a supporter of efforts to dismantle Hezbollah. Lebanese official sources, however, have denied any intention by Aoun to participate in an event involving Israeli officials, and his office has stated that current circumstances do not permit such a meeting.

The postponement leaves the trajectory of high-level US-Israel-Lebanon diplomacy in a holding pattern. Israeli officials say Netanyahu still intends to travel once the funeral date is confirmed, and the White House has not commented publicly on the delay.
