The discovery of two male bodies wrapped in black plastic and placed inside metal coffins in the front patio of a house in the community of Aguapepito, in the municipality of Navolato, Sinaloa, has prompted conflicting reports about their identity and the circumstances of their deaths.

According to Excelsior, the victims were a father and son, both named Pedro, aged 50 and 27, who had been kidnapped on 17 July. The same source states that their bodies were left in the coffins at a residence in the rural area of Navolato. El Universal, however, reports that the bodies have not yet been identified and remain at the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) for autopsies and fingerprint analysis. El Universal adds that the bodies showed signs of torture and gunshot wounds, a detail not mentioned in the Excelsior account.

Both outlets report that the bodies were discovered after neighbours alerted authorities. Military personnel were the first responders and secured the scene before investigators from the State Attorney General's Office arrived to process the evidence.
